Director's Message - Spring 2025

CEH director Dr. Carrie Finno standing with horse

Emerging from winter into spring means more daylight hours – which for many of us translates into more barn time! At CEH, we love seeing our horses enjoying time grazing in the pastures and taking naps in the sunshine.

Spring also means that foals are starting to arrive. Veterinarians have important roles in supporting many aspects of breeding management to ensure the birth of healthy foals. At CEH, we work closely with the Equine Reproduction Service and the UC Davis Veterinary Assisted Reproduction (VetART) Laboratory to provide services to owners and breeders and advance research to benefit horses now and in the future.

For this issue, we tapped into the expertise of our equine reproductive specialists to bring you exciting updates on advanced reproductive technologies, embryo production, and fetal monitoring. We are grateful to Drs. Pouya Dini, Catherine Renaudin, Ghislaine Dujovne, and Alejandro de la Fuente for sharing their expertise on these topics.

CEH facilitates research in equine reproduction through faculty and resident grants. Outcomes from these projects are summarized in our biannual Research Review publications. You can support these efforts by contributing to our General Support and Teaching Herd Funds. More information on CEH-supported research and giving opportunities can be found on our website: ceh.vetmed. ucdavis.edu.
